Freelance Rate Calculator
Calculate your minimum hourly rate, target hourly rate, daily rate, and monthly revenue target based on your income, expenses, and billable hours.
Your inputs are processed in your browser and are not sent to a server or stored unless you explicitly choose to save them locally. No account required.
How to Use This Tool
Enter your desired annual income, business expenses, estimated tax reserve percentage, billable hours per week, working weeks, desired profit buffer, and day length. The calculator adds expenses and tax reserve to your income, divides by total billable hours for the minimum rate, then adds the profit buffer for the target rate.
How the Output Is Generated
Input: Income = $80,000, Expenses = $5,000, Tax = 25%, Billable hours = 25/week, Weeks = 48, Buffer = 15%. Output: Minimum rate approximately $71/hour, Target rate approximately $82/hour, Daily rate approximately $656, Monthly target approximately $8,083.
Limitations and Responsible Use
- This is a planning estimate and is not financial or tax advice.
- The calculator uses a flat tax reserve percentage, not actual tax brackets or deductions.
- Billable hours should reflect realistic expectations, not total working hours. Most freelancers bill 50-70% of their working time.
